North Carolina: part 2

FOOD!  Sooo, the Markhams wanted to give us the Southern Experience, so we went over the Big Eds for breakfast one morning.  They kept telling us about the MASSIVE hot cakes the restaurant makes.  After explaining how big and thick one pancake was and how one was more than enough, they proceeded to tell us about Big Eds Challenge, and when it comes to food and challenges Luke will not turn it down.  At that moment, Luke had made to decision to take the challenge.  As Luke ordered, everyone at the table was silent, Steve had a look on his face of amusement and fear, and the waitress just laughed.  After convincing the waitress that he did want to take the challenge she asked "Do you have anything else to do today...like walk?"  Haha, she mostly just made fun of Luke the whole time because she didn't think he could do it.  And if you know any of the Leishman kids, you know that they are tall, skinny, and can eat insurmountable quantities of food!  And so, it began with three of the LARGEST, THICKEST pancakes I have ever seen...
After 45 minutes, a few glasses of water, a few little walks around the restaurant, rescuing two little boys from a bug in the bathroom, a couple of near losses, a family of 7 constant cheers, a serenade of 4 waitresses, and constant mocking followed by a look of pure amazement from the waitress...Luke FINISHED!  It was quite amazing, and he gathered quite the audience.  The winners of the challenge get a free t-shirt the says 'I ate the BIG ONE', when Luke was asked what size shirt he wanted he was laughed at by the waitress when he said a medium.  'Hunny, the smallest shirt we have is an XL!'  And there it was, my soul mate, my champion, my warrior, my man and eternal husband LUKE LEISHMAN: SLAYER OF HOTCAKES!  And the bottom right corner is what Luke did for the rest of the day, slept while every single cell in his body was trying to digest the stack of pancakes that was nearly the size of  him.

Here is some more pictures of food from the rest of our trip. Did we spend the whole time in North Carolina eating...maybe. While in D.C. we found GeorgeTown Cupcake, which is the cupcake shop that is featured in the show DC Cupcakes of TLC.  They were amazing! I don't know, maybe we went back more than once.

  1. DANG. Way to go Luke! You give that Man vs Food guy a run for his monay.

Looks like you guys had a blast! I'm a sucker for cupcakes, those look bomb! I need to make it out to the east coast at some point in my life, if not solely for those ridiculous looking cupcakes.
